Rock solid watch May 20, 2010 Alan Karl Church (Battlefield MO USA) I've had it around 2 weeks now, so the long term experience is unknown, but so far it's mighty encouraging.
(1) Mine was sold as clean used goods at substantial discounts. I can't see any signs of use at all.
(2) I set it to the shortwave time signal day received. It is still not a second off.
(3) Why they bother with the date window is obscure. With my thick old guy glasses, I can't read it. I showed it to my 20 year old niece with flawless 20 year old vision, and she can't read it either. A Seiko 5 with a dial the size of a dime has legible day/date, and this one with a dial the size of a pizza pan has a date window the size of a dandruff flake. Weird.
(4) I ditched the chain, and wove a keeper out of 4 m/m flat nylon cord. So no comment on that aspect.
(5) Flawlessly finished case, excellent dial visibility (save for the date), good luminescence, and for those who like such, quite bit of heft.
(6) If this one were lost or stolen, I'd replace with identical in a heartbeat.
Reliable for years February 27, 2010 luckyspark (asbury park, nj) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned this watch since they put them on the market...probably close to 20 years. The watch itself has been the most reliable watch I have ever owned and I have used it almost everyday. I haven't even had to change the battery that often. I love this watch and it has become my most treasured and loved possession.
The only negative thing I have to say is that the chain has held up but I have had to replace the clip and jump ring several times. I find this a small price to pay to have such a reliable and awesome watch with me at all times. Wrist watches need bands every so often; so, I feel replacing those two incredibly inexpensive parts every few years is worth it. I bought a small bag of each part at a bead store and fix it myself.
Sturdy and Reliable May 14, 2009 Larry G. Humphreys (New Mexico) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had this Swiss Army pocket watch for many years (twenty years, if I'm not mistaken). It has always been accurate and exceedingly reliable. The battery needs replacing approximately every two years. The past two battery replacements have been done by a Mexican sidewalk vendor/repairman on the Rio Cuale Bridge along Avenida Insurgentes in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico ... perhaps some of you have seen him. The leather pouch is still intact. The chain has been replaced by a home-made leather fob. The original chain now supports my house keys. Wonderful watch! Highly recommended.
This pocket watch is valuable to me November 25, 2008 Dennis C. Rahn (USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My left wrist was broken years ago and wearing a watch on it bothers me. I couldn't get used to one on the right arm either so I've been using pocket watches. After using many cheap types I have settled on the Victorinox pocket watch and am a happy camper. It's large easy to read face and weight yells value. Not a bit of trouble with the chain or watch after two years so far. I did replace the fob as soon as I got it though for a stainless steel clasp. It's cool to "Whip it out."
Swiss Army Pocket Watch September 30, 2008 A. Holmes (Maine) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
My wife purchased this watch from a jewelry store for me for father's day about 3-1/2 years ago. The chain fell apart within about three months. I've had numerous problems with the battery falling out from its inside compartment and now it has failed all together. The watch always has stayed in the watch pocket of my jeans and has never seen rough use but has numerous scratches from normal everyday use. Finally because of its sentimental value I sent it to swiss army for repair and they said that it needed a whole new movement cleaning, etc. for $58.00. I've had other pocket watches that I have purchased from walmart for $10 to $15 that have faired far better. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on this poor quality piece just because it has the name Swiss Army.
